References

The purpose of this page is to collect references to relevant online resources, with some notes on applicability. It will be updated as time and inclination permit.

The primary criterion for inclusion here is that the reference is something that I personally agree with, at least substantively. In many cases this may be a link to an article on some site which also contains things I emphatically do not agree with, so nothing here is to be taken as an endorsement of the author or host site of the identified material.

A Human's Guide to Words (LessWrong)

One of the most important article sequences on Less Wrong, also summarized at 37 Ways That Words Can Be Wrong.

Mysterious Answers to Mysterious Questions (LessWrong)

Another important sequence.

Reductionism (LessWrong)

Reductionism is one of the big bugbears of many otherwise smart people—they manage to confuse themselves about what it means and what its consequences are, often resulting in confused denials. (This sequence depends on the previous two)

An actual philosopher points out some of the confusions of Feser's book.

Doug Shaver's review of Feser's The Last Superstition

Another comprehensive review of Feser's book.

I Myself Am A Scientismist (Slate Star Codex)

On why "scientism" isn't a bad thing.

“Christian belief through the lens of cognitive science” by Valerie Tarico

A version of this article from 2009 by psychologist Valerie Tarico appears as a chapter in The Christian Delusion, but here are the links to it on Valerie's own blog:

Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8

Some things I'd like to add if I can find suitable treatments of them:

  • Any more good anti-Aristotelian-metaphysics material
  • (more things I haven't thought of yet)
